California Car Insurance Basics

Calculating costs, how?

Money well spent on car insurance

The state of California has certain requirements that the providers of California car insurance have to provide its clients. These requirements basically compose the minimum insurance coverage all California based car insurance companies offer for vehicle owners of the state. Each insurance policy does come with certain upgrades, but make sure that the policy you are getting for your car insurance covers the basic requirements.

The main coverage system in California car insurance is popularly known as the 15/30/5 coverage. This is for the Bodily Injury Liability coverage that offers each person in each accident a minimum of USD 15,000 and a maximum of USD 30,000. For any damages inflicted upon property, Property Damage Liability is at a minimum of USD 5,000.

In order to properly gauge if your car insurance policies would be sufficient, be sure to familiarize yourself with the Tort system. The state of California practices a Tort system to determine compensation for harms and wrongs. These damages can be done to one person or many persons, to property, and all things of personal and protected interests. The damage has to be inflicted by another party. The Tort system determines how much the damaging party is liable and the damaged party is entitled to receive as compensation.

There are times, however, that the liable party may be underinsured or not even insured at all, and this causes much grievance to the damaged party. In order to avoid such unpleasantries to an already unpleasant situation, it is highly suggested that you sign up for the Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury coverage. This is not part of the requirements of the state of California as pertaining to car insurance, but signing up for it is a good idea.

The minimum state required insurance package is good enough for most people, but it would definitely not hurt to explore more options. There are several car insurance policies in California that covers a broader range of incidents, and it would be wise to make sure that your vehicle is insured for as many foreseeable possibilities depending on your personality and your lifestyle as well as personal preferences.
